All Toddler and ALL BOY!

"Big boy" doesn't even start to describe our BJ! He is so full of life and into everything! Let's just say that he is a healthy (almost, lots of allergies) ACTIVE toddler! As an early childhood educator, I had considered myself prepared to be a first time mother. I do feel prepared in the developmental sense, but as most of you know, you can't prepare for everything! I believe this to be true especially in the adoption aspect of it all! Yes we know, we shouldn't be to hard on him because he was in an orphanage, but when your child starts sticking his finger in the outlets, you have to make sure he knows he shouldn't do that. So we have of course taught him "No." Most of the time, he minds well, but there are times when "no" is funny to him (I know, just like every toddler). For example, when trying to put on his shoes, he began to kick his feet and then kicked us. We told him "no" and he started laughing hysterically. We had to try not to laugh and then used a "stern" voice and said it again. He started laughing harder! We couldn't believe it! Then I realized that more than likely he never heard a "stern" voice before. To him, we were just making funny sounds! So yes, we are experiencing the many facets of raising a
little boy! However, nothing can match his vibrant personality and contagious laugh. Yes! We dearly love our son!

He still loves food and I think we've managed to pack on a few pounds. He's doing so well chewing, he had his first slice of pizza tonight! He loved it! Of course mommy cut it up really tiny and dowsed each piece with milk (he still will not drink). But, he thought it tasted good!

On to other matters, we have been exploring more of the city and today walked down to the Wisla River, which runs through Warsaw. It was about a 45 minute walk one way and BJ did great. He loves walks! He does get fidgety sometimes, but holding him for a few minutes solves that problem. Thanks to a carrier that holds a toddler (thanks Dave and Teresa!) it makes holding him much easier. On our journey, we were able to see part of Old Town (and a whole bunch of tourist). The architecture is amazing! Every building is so intricately built! We also saw something that looked similar to Americas "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier." It was a monument of sorts with two guards posted on either side. We have yet to get a tour book and because we can't read Polish, we have no idea what it said. If some of you know what it is or have been there, please let us know! We will post pictures soon, but I have not loaded them yet.

Below is a video and some video links of our little guy! I am sorry for my "booming" voice in the background, but I just can't help myself. Our little BJ just brings it out in me! Enjoy!

LOVED the videos! Thanks for posting.

About the allergies - is it just written in his medical file or do you know for sure because you've seen it? I'm asking because both our children were diagnosed with Asthma and were on medication when we met them. A month after arriving in the U.S. we took them off the medication. They're perfectly fine and we have strong doubts that we'll ever see an Asthma attack from these VERY active and healthy kids.

Wow! Cute video! Yes, I remember the monument well, and if it's the one near/in a large park wih a soldier on each side, it is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Even in the dead of winter we spent a lot of time at that park :-)

I am just loving watching the two of you loving being B.J.'s parents. Thank you so much for posting all of those videos! I can't wait to show Caroline!!! You wouldn't believe how mesmerized she was with the previous videos and how many times she did the "more" sign to see them over and over again. (By the way, was B.J. doing the "more" sign in the hamper video? It looked like it a couple of times.) Dave will be very excited to learn more about the landmarks you mentioned, too. You can bet he'll be Googling them tomorrow!

I'll bet that the different tones of your voice really are a kick to B.J. Not only is "no" a word in a whole new language, but it comes with funny sounds, too. If he's anything like Caroline, he's big into cause and effect right now, too, so getting any kind of a reaction from you is probably a lot of fun for him. I'll bet it is really hard to keep a straight face when he is so darn cute!

It seems like you are all bonding beautifully, and it is very heart-warming to see and read.

God bless you all.

Your son is the cute little angel. I am native Warszawianka so here is a little info about my town. If you want to go to Tourist Information Center, the main location is in the train station "Warszawa Centralna" on the ground level "Main Hall", next to "Zlote Tarasy" Mall. Watch your belongings as the train station is known as pickpocket location. There is small office on 65 Krakowskie PrzedmieĊ›cie Street - more pleasant to visit. You can ask for free current tram map and info how to use the system, current listing of free events, listing of churches with mass in English in your religious denomination,etc.. There is American Bookstore in "Arkadia" Mall if you would like to get something to read. There is a nice park next to the American Embassy called "Lazienki Krolewskie" with free Chopin music concert in park every Sunday.

Such a happy little guy!!

Our boys loved watching the changing of the guard. We watched frequently! They also took to chasing (respectfully) after the guards trying to figure out where they come from and where they go...

Around the city there are a number of "I" storefronts... basically information booths. They seem to all have English speaking folks at the desks. We frequented the one near the Bristol Hotel (they knew us by name when we left). SUPER helpful at finding things going on around town. :)

There are English sections in book stores that will have English travel books in them. One great book (one that we bought in Warsaw) is Eyewitness Travel. I have added a link below. It is located on Nowy Swiat. There is a little book store near 41 Nowy Swiat (that is where our apartment was (41A)). Also my husband can tell you any bus or tram you need to get anywhere you want. There is a great Warsaw Uprising Museum that I highly recommend. It was fab. A definite must see. I wrote about it in my blog if you are interested.
